Film Review – Mission Impossible
Mission Impossible features Tom Selleck as a football manager attempting to compete with all the big English clubs, but with only a fraction of the budget.
Selleck’s club are a bunch of overachievers who have found themselves in the Premier League. Financially outgunned and with only a small squad at his disposal, Selleck sets about wheeling and dealing in the transfer market.
A couple of foreign loan signings initially make a difference, but during the congested Christmas fixture list a spate of injuries make Tom’s task a ‘mission impossible’. After three defeats on the bounce, Tom’s star striker, played by Uma Thurman, calls Tom ‘a tool’ and storms out. The ensuing finale where Tom attempts to talk Thurman round and co-opts a load of YTS lads into the first team makes for compulsive viewing. This is that rarest of things: A rewarding blockbuster.
