Film Review – Along Came a Spider

Halle Berry appears as Peter Parker in this prequel to Spider-man. Unable to find an actor with the requisite squeaky voice, director Lee Tamahori took the unusual step of casting a woman. While Halle Berry bears precious little resemblance to a young boy, the voice is at least a higher register than most men’s.

Where the original Spider-man depicts the moment at which Peter Parker gets his superhero abilities, it only hints at what went before. This film fills in the gaps.

It turns out that when Peter Parker was younger, he was Halle Berry. That isn’t to say that Peter Parker merely resembles Halle Berry, which is to be expected being as she is the actress playing the part. No – pre-pubescent Peter was in fact a Hollywood actress called Halle Berry. In casting Halle Berry for the part, Tamahori was forced to make some amendments to the script and this was one.

This is a stupid film. One for fans of Halle Berry only.
