Film Review - Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet Frankenstein

Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet Frankenstein is a veritable tour de force. It covers a remarkable amount of ground raising questions about man's innate sense of worthlessness, his propensity for cruelty and his predisposition to drink. All of this is conveyed in knockabout fashion and it's only afterwards that the true depth of what you have witnessed sinks in.

Is Alvin a chipmunk? Why is he always separate? Are we to infer that he is not in fact a chipmunk, but maybe some sort of squat weasel? Why does Simon wear glasses, is this a comment on our short-sighted contemporary ways? And what's the point of Theodore? Just what is it that he does?

Add into the mix Frankenstein, or to be more precise, Frankenstein's monster and there's a recipe for success.

Warning: This film contains images of chipmunks devouring a reanimated composite human consisting of body parts from various cadavers.
