Film Review – 48 Hours

Bob Holness from Blockbusters stars as a pub landlord caught out by new licensing laws. Having spent his entire career closing the pub at 11.30pm sharp, Bob is unprepared for the relaxation in the law. Forced by circumstance to keep his pub open, he finds himself short staffed. Bob must now man the bar for the next 48 hours.

While Bob Holness may have the vague look of a publican, his acting range is stretched by having to depict one after a marathon stint behind the bar. Bob is just too chipper. The whole point of this film is to depict a man out of step with time; a man struggling to adapt to 21st century life. Bob doesn’t look like he’s struggling even after he’s served his thousandth pint. He looks like he’s raring to go.

It’s a shame because other than that, this is a superb film, documenting a part of life that is under-represented in contemporary cinema.
