Film Review – War of the Roses

War of the Roses stars Ian Austin and Chris Silverwood as opposing bowlers during a Lancashire v Yorkshire County Championship match during the late Nineties.

Ian Austin is the burly medium pacer who Lancashire use to hold up one end while they attack from the other. Chris Silverwood is the young paceman trying to catch the England selectors’ eyes. This is a study in ambition and exceeding your own expectations. It’s heart-warming although it’s a little disappointing that so much of the match is rained off resulting in a draw.
